Brooklyn Rider began as four friends exploring music together in a living room and has since grown into a quartet heard on major stages across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, including Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Zurich’s Tonhalle, and the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing. Their wide-ranging work includes collaborations with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Kayhan Kalhor, Béla Fleck, Magos Herrera, Anne Sofie von Otter, Avi Avital, and many others.
For Raleigh audiences, this season-opening appearance offers the perfect introduction to Brooklyn Rider’s singular voice: elegant, adventurous, and alive with discovery. Whether performing masterworks, new commissions, or music that crosses cultural boundaries, Brooklyn Rider creates concerts that feel both intimate and expansive.
Join Chamber Music Raleigh at NCMA for an unforgettable opening to the season—two opportunities to hear a quartet that continues to reimagine the 300-year-old string quartet tradition for the 21st century.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Chamber Music Raleigh opens its 85th Season with Brooklyn Rider, one of today’s most imaginative and influential string quartets, appearing for two concerts as part of the popular Sights & Sounds on Sundays series at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
Praised by NPR as “a string quartet of boundless imagination,” Brooklyn Rider has spent two decades reshaping what a string quartet can be: deeply rooted in the classical tradition, but fearless in its embrace of new music, global collaboration, and bold artistic storytelling. The ensemble features Johnny Gandelsman and Colin Jacobsen, violins; Nicholas Cords, viola; and Michael Nicolas, cello. Together, they bring a rare combination of virtuosity, curiosity, and emotional immediacy to the stage.
